OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH PLASTIC IS OUT OF CONTROL
The problem is not the material, but its misuse and abuse
- Plastic pollution is harming our planet and us
- We need to act now to stop it!
LETS DESIGN A CIRCULAR ECONOMY OF PLASTICS
Lets replace single use plastic
- Lets scale up solutions to change cultural habits
- Lets re-design systems to avoid more plastic waste
OUR OBJECTIVE IS TO EDUCATE AND FACILITATE SOLUTIONS TO REDUCE PLASTIC WASTE
WE ARE WOMEN OBSESSED WITH TRASH AND CRAZY ABOUT PLASTIC
Agustina Besada started this adventure aboard sailboat Fanky, to explore the problem of plastic in the ocean. After living 5 years in New York, having studied sustainability, led a recycling center and offering talks about circular economy and plastic at events and universities, Agustina decided to embark on this initiative.
The Unplastify team is formed by a group of amazing, entrepreneurial and passionate women, also crazy about plastic, who work on the project from land.
EXPLORE + EDUCATE + ACTIVATE
STAGE 1 - EXPLORATION
Investigating plastic pollution at sea, interviewing experts and mapping effective solutions in the world.
- Phase 0 . PREPARATION - completed
- Phase I . ATLANTIC CROSSING - completed
- Phase II . EUROPE BY SEA AND LAND - in progress
- Phase III . TO SOUTH AMERICA - coming soon
STAGE 2 - EDUCATION + ACTION
Sharing our experience and findings, facilitating the activation of impactful actions and inspiring systemic and cultural changes.
Communication of reports from data collected
Work in a collaborative network of schools and organizations
Talks and workshops about the exploration experience and results of the investigation
Development of Unplastify solutions adapted to each specific organization
Study and promotion of regulatory policies
We work with schools, companies, organizations and governments to educate, raise awareness and promote solutions to improve our relationship with plastic.
STAGE 1 - EXPLORATION
WE CROSSED THE ATLANTIC COLLECTING SAMPLES OF PLASTIC IN THE OCEAN
In May 2018, we set sail aboard sailboat Fanky from New York to Gibraltar.
At sea, we took samples of plastic pollution to contribute to the scientific research done by the 5 Gyres Institute. After 27 days at sea (56 in total from New York), 2 stops (Bermuda and Azores) and 3,700 nautical miles, we arrived to our destination, Gibraltar.
In Europe, we interview experts and explore solutions to the plastic waste problem. The results of the experience and its findings will be published once the exploration stage is finished.
What do we do during the Exploration Stage?
- RESEARCH - We support plastic pollution research with samples collection for 5Gyres Institute
- EXPERTS - We interview related leaders to understand different views on the issue of plastic
- MAPPING - We identify circular economy solutions and alternatives to single-use plastic
Fanky is a 36-feet sailboat named honoring an Argentine song-writer, Charly García. Designed by the Argentine German Frers and built by the Swedish shipyard Hallberg Rassy. You can follow the steps of Fanky in the map below, with information updated by satellite. Also, follow our adventure in our BLOG and social media.
